Welcome to the Souldancing newsletter ! Where we aim to give you a mix of dance news, party info, and studio updates¡:-)
1. We recently read an interesting article on salsa in the New York Times¡
¡explaining how old school salsa was all about enjoying the music, doing some simple moves, partying, and having fun¡ and how salsa got over complicated over the years...

"You see people spinning like tops and flying in the air and gyrating, and doing this amazing movement and you want to run for your life¡ It's gotten so sophisticated. Before, we'd give the girls a little turn here, a little turn there. Now we start her off with 14 spins in the first bar."
"It's not about 5, 6, 7, 8," Ms. Torres said, "I tell people, 'Close your eyes, move.' Right or wrong, with that music, you can't help it. I feel that, now more than ever, this generation wants to go back. We need to relax, simplify it, and hopefully it will come back here."
So salsa doesn't have to be hard after all...and that's how we teach it at Souldancing¡it's all about having fun with it ! ;-)
2. Souldancing teaches Cirque du Soleil !
When the Cirque du Soleil artists want to learn salsa, who do they turn to ? Souldancing of course ! For the last few weeks, Souldancing has been giving special workshops to the Cirque du Soleil artists at their 5-stars hotel in Pudong. As you can imagine, these folks are fast learners and they didn't need too much time to get the basic steps ;-) It's a real pleasure to teach this bunch of high-energy guys and girls, and we highly recommend you check out their show ! Hurry, they are only in town for a few more weeks¡
3. Souldancing had a great special Bollywood dancing workshop with Indian guest teacher Meera last Tuesday ¨C loved those sexy Bollywood moves ! If you missed this one, be prepared for the next...
4. Last month, you may have seen us dancing around¡.the Souldancing Team performed for Hugo, Fantown, Attica, De La Coast, Mao, HFZ, Le Meridien, and more¡we were also featured on the cover of Shanghai Daily and inside That's Shanghai¡:-)
5. Speaking of performances, we will soon start classes with a special focus on public performance¡stay tuned for more on that opportunity ! We are also working on organizing a "practice party" at the studio with all the students¡
6. Teacher update : Pole Dancing teacher Jacqueline came back from holiday, her class is on every Thursday 8-9pm, Sat 4-5pm; Kamel is back in France for 2 weeks, and is currently replaced by Spanish teacher Stas; Kamel will be back and start to teach again on August 20.
