Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates of Germany.
Professional dancers have known the benefits of Pilates for decades. Top athletes use it for strength, flexibility, and injury prevention. Hollywood celebrities and models use it to maintain beautiful bodies, and many, including Hugh Grand, Jennifer Anniston and Oprah Winfrey, have commented about the benefits of the practice.
Pilates transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs. It builds strength without excess muscle, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen. It is gentle to your body while giving it a challenging workout.
Pilates improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion. It also helps with back pain. It elongates and strengthens your muscles, improving elasticity and joint mobility.
In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles.
In Shanghai Souldancing Studio, Pilates is practiced standing or on a floor mat no heavy equipment is involved. You will use your body weight, which makes injuries less likely.
